Day 1: Our 21 Day Detox

8/13/2014

Today marks the first day of our 21 day detox. The detox that we are doing is a 21 day cleanse from Standard Process (the supplements we sell at the office). It consists of eating clean for 21 days to form a habit and continue eating healthy after the 21 days is over. The detox eliminates wheat, dairy, nuts, caffeine, and sugar from the diet. The first 10 days consist of eating fruits and vegetables and shakes to get in your protein that one would normally get from meat. Days 11-21 you can start eating lean meats like chicken and fish. There are also supplements that are taken through the detox. Days 1-7 supplements are designed to cleanse the liver and jump start the detoxification. Supplements on days 8-21 are designed to support the body through the remainder of the detox. Sounds easy, right? It really isn't as bad as it seems and after 5 years of doing the detox 1-2 times a year Dr. Josh and I are pros. So enjoy reading about our journey through these next 21 days and if any questions arise please contact the office and we will answer them.

Here goes…
Day 1:
The first few days are always the worst, not having a cup of coffee first thing in the morning is tough to eliminate.  We started off the morning by having a fruit and protein shake. Snacks during the day consisted of cherries and a mix of raw veggies. Lunch today was a big salad and some sautéed zucchini and summer squash. Dinner is where we get a little more creative :)
We made portabella pizzas, even on a detox pizza is acceptable. While there may not have been any cheese or crust on the pizzas they did hit the spot.

We are experiencing a few detox "side effects" today. The main ones being tiredness from not having caffeine.  We've both had a on again off again headache as toxins are already starting to leave our body. The thing I like best about this detox though is, although I know I'm cleansing I never really feel starved. As long as I'm eating good food like raw veggies and fruit I can eat as much as I need to, to prevent hunger pains. So I can graze all day and still get the maximum benefits from the cleanse.
